The talks on delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border will be held peacefully, National Security Committee Chairman Kamchibek Tashiev said on September 15.

Kamchibek Tashiev is chairman of the intergovernmental delegation for delimitation and demarcation of the state border.

The National Security Committee Chairman today attended ceremonies of inauguration of several facilities in Batken region.

Tashiev told media representatives that one year passed after Tajikistan attacked the territory of Kyrgyzstan. Dozens of servicemen and civilians died. “We are holding border talks with the neighbors peacefully. We tried to resolve border issues peacefully, we will continue making such efforts further. President Sadyr Japarov gave instruction to hold negotiations in a peaceful manner. We are working in this regard. I would like to say that the act of military aggression was committed against our state last year. This is a fact. We will not allow such aggression anymore. As chairman of the intergovernmental delegation for delimitation and demarcation of the state border, I would like to note that our neighbor Tajikistan had claims on the border, territorial claims. We always responded to those territorial claims that such claims should not be made,” Tashiev said.

New documents were found recently, Tashiev stated. “On the basis of these documents we established that most Kyrgyz land went to Tajikistan. We can confirm this legally with historical documents. In case Tajikistan does not abandon its territorial claims against Kyrgyzstan, we will put forward territorial claims to our neighbors juridically. We have enough forces and opportunities. We have all possibilities to return our historical territories, which dozens, hundreds years ago went to the neighboring state. I would like to note once again that the authorities of Kyrgyzstan are carrying out work on delimitation and demarcation of the border through peaceful negotiations,” Tashiev said.

Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan delineated 101.86 km of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border from May 2021 and up to date.

Respective protocols are signed following meetings of working groups of two countries.

The working group for delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border is led by Cabinet’s Special Representative for Border Issues Nazirbek Borubaev.
