Kyrgyz lawmakers have demanded an explanation from the rectors of Bishkek-based universities over a controversial plan to allow ex-President Askar Akaev to hold lectures, a move that sparked student protests over the weekend. A parliamentary committee on May 22 urged the Education Ministry to exercise stricter control over university curricula because of the issue.
