Kyrgyzstan’s new integrated digital surveillance system (iEPID) tracks the epidemiological situation in the country and facilitates a quick and effective response to emerging public health events, including outbreaks of infectious diseases.  Developed with technical support from WHO, iEPID allows the Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance to monitor the spread of diseases across districts. Kyrgyz lawmakers have demanded an explanation from the rectors of Bishkek-based universities over a controversial plan to allow ex-President Askar Akaev to hold lectures, a move that sparked student protests over the weekend. A parliamentary committee on May 22 urged the Education Ministry to exercise stricter control over university curricula because of the issue. Akaev, who was toppled by protesters in 2005 and fled the country, arrived in Bishkek on May 18 amid reports saying he will lecture at several universities, which many students opposed. Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan Ulanbek Totuiaev has said that broad experience of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( LCCI) in business will help in enhancing the business ties between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan.
