Maldivians travelling to the Kyrgyz Republic are now exempt from visa requirements.
This was revealed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a publication on Sunday.
As such, the foreign ministry revealed that Maldivian nationals travelling to Kyrgyz Republic will be exempted from visa from 20 August 2023 onwards.
The visa waiver agreement between the Maldives and Kyrgyz Republic, signed on 23 September 2022, has come into force which will allow Maldivians holding valid diplomatic, official and ordinary passports to enter and stay in the Kyrgyz Republic a maximum period of 30 days from the day of entry.
As per the visa waiver agreement signed on the sidelines of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Maldivians intending to stay for a longer period or to work or to attend an educational institution or conduct business in Kyrgyzstan will be required to obtain an appropriate visa prior to travel.
Taking to Twitter, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid highlighted that the visa waiver agreement coming into effect will not only increase people-to-people ties between the two friendly nations but also enhance tourism and commercial ties between the two countries.
On July 13, Maldivians traveling to the Arab Republic of Egypt were granted visa-on-arrival as well. The Maldives was also among the eight countries to have been granted visa waiver from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on August 7.
Under the incumbent administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, FM Shahid has been maintaining close ties with the foreign world, holding important meetings and fruitful discussions with world leaders.
As a result of this, the Maldives has been granted ease in traveling to several foreign countries.
