Over the past few weeks, the President of the Cermac consortium Enrico Turoni signed a cooperation agreement with the Association of Berry Growers from Kyrgyzstan, represented by President Tilek Toktogaziev.
“The agreement is a starting point to offer Kyrgyz producers the latest field and post-harvesting solutions by Cermac, a consortium that gathers around thirty Italian companies.”
Thanks to its geographical position and orography, Kyrgyzstan produces a wide variety of berries: the producer association covers in total 4000 hectares producing over 25,000 tons of mainly strawberries and raspberries.
The outlet market is mainly the local one, though relationships with neighboring countries and exports to China are also increasing. Local producers therefore need to improve the quality of their fruits, so more suitable varieties and technologies are needed.
A delegation from the Association of Berry Growers will visit Macfrut in Rimini (May 3rd-5th).
